As well as programmes for school groups, a variety of events are held at the Centre for teachers, librarians, students and the general public. These include Professional Development sessions, Sharing Their Craft sessions with authors and illustrators for emerging writers and illustrators, After School Workshops, Open Days, Book Launches and the annual Leslie Rees Lecture.

Ned Kelly and the Green Sash - Using Historical Picture Books in the Classroom with Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac

Duration: Thursday 16 September 5.00pm - 7.00pm

Ned Kelly and the Green Sash, Simpson and his Donkey, Fortuyn's Ghost, The Legend of Moondyne Joe, The Legend of Lasseter's Reef and more

Frané and Mark's previous historical picture books, The Legend of Moondyne Joe and Simpson and his Donkey, and Mark's The Legend of Lasseter's Reef have won much acclaim from teachers and librarians, who find them a valuable resource for turning students on to history. Ned Kelly and the Green Sash is sure to find similar acclaim and Frané and Mark will ensure you leave with numerous practical teaching strategies, lots of insights into their research , the creation of the text and illustrations and Ned Kelly himself.
Comprehensive teachers' notes will be available.

Creative Writing: Focussing on Narrative Professional Development Programme with Australian Authors for Teachers and Librarians 

For Teachers, Librarians and Emerging and Published Authors - at the Centre with
Kirsty Murray, Jackie French, Isobelle Carmody, Archie Fusillo and James Roy.
Kirsty Murray (Vic), Jackie French (NSW), Isobelle Carmody (Czech Republic), Archie Fusillo (Vic) and James Roy (NSW) are all award-winning authors with a superb list of publications. Each is a vibrant, warm and compelling presenter, guaranteed  to send you away impatient to try the creative writing and editing techniques workshopped during the day.

Each day will include: Insights into their lives and writing careers; a Q&A session on their books; two one-hour creative writing workshops and a one hour editing workshop.

Family Open Days 

Family Open Days are held on one Sunday each term, 11.00am - 4.00pm. The general public has the opportunity to view the exhibitions, meet local and interstate authors and illustrators and purchase books and artwork.

Lectures

The Leslie Rees Fremantle Lecture

This is an annual lecture honouring Leslie Rees, who died in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled diversity in journalism, travel writing, drama and, of course, children’s literature. Leslie won the very first Children’s Book Council Book of the Year award in 1946 with the picture book, The Story of Karrawingi the Emu, illustrated by Walter Cunningham.
Multi award-winning author, Markus Zusak, delivered the 2009 Lecture.
