As well as programmes for school groups, a variety of events are held at the Centre for teachers, librarians, students and the general public. These include Professional Development sessions, Sharing Their Craft sessions with authors and illustrators for emerging writers and illustrators, After School Workshops, Open Days, Book Launches and the annual Leslie Rees Lecture.

One Hour Writing/Illustration Consultations for Adults

Family Open Days are held on one Sunday each term, 11.00am - 4.00pm. The general public has the opportunity to view the exhibitions, meet local and interstate authors and illustrators and purchase books and artwork.
The Centre has a regular programme of Book Launches. Some titles that have been launched at the Centre are Daywards by Tony Eaton, Ned Kelly and the Green Sash by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac, Chess Nuts by Julia Lawrenson, Simpson and his Donkey by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac, The Red Tree by Shaun Tan and Skyfall by Tony Eaton.
This is an annual lecture honouring Leslie Rees, who died in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled diversity in journalism, travel writing, drama and, of course, children’s literature. Leslie won the very first Children’s Book Council Book of the Year award in 1946 with the picture book, The Story of Karrawingi the Emu, illustrated by Walter Cunningham.
Multi award-winning author, Markus Zusak, delivered the 2009 Lecture.
