As well as programmes for school groups, a variety of events are held at the Centre for teachers, librarians, students and the general public. These include Professional Development sessions, Sharing Their Craft sessions with authors and illustrators for emerging writers and illustrators, Family Open Days, Book Launches and the annual Leslie Rees Lecture.

Family Open Days are held on one Sunday each term, 11.00am - 4.00pm. The general public has the opportunity to view the exhibitions, meet local and interstate authors and illustrators and purchase books and artwork.

John Heffernan, (also Charle Carter of Battle Boy fame), is one of Australia's most successful and versatile authors, as well as being a sheep and cattle farmer. He will delight you with the stories behind his many award-winning picture books and novels.

The Centre has a regular programme of Book Launches. Some titles that have been launched at the Centre are The Last VIking by Norman Jorgensen and James Foley, Daywards by Tony Eaton, Ned Kelly and the Green Sash by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac, Chess Nuts by Julia Lawrinson, Simpson and his Donkey by Mark Greenwood and Frané Lessac, The Red Tree by Shaun Tan and Skyfall by Tony Eaton.
This is an annual lecture honouring Leslie Rees, who died in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled diversity in journalism, travel writing, drama and, of course, children’s literature. Leslie won the very first Children’s Book Council Book of the Year award in 1946 with the picture book, The Story of Karrawingi the Emu, illustrated by Walter Cunningham.

Libby Gleeson is one of Australia's most eminent and beloved children's authors whose books have won or been shortlisted in major National and State Awards on over twenty occasions. She has twice won significant international awards and in 1997 was awarded the Lady Cutler Award for Services to Children's Literature and in 2007 was made a Member of the Order of Australia.
