Author & Illustrator in Residence Programme

The Centre runs a comprehensive Authors and Illustrators in Residence Programme for approximately 16 weeks annually where Australian authors and illustrators of children’s and young adult’s books present talks and workshops, both at the Centre and at schools.

Time in Residence: 15 - 19 March

We are proud to welcome Albany's much-loved author to the Centre. Dianne's session will focus on the research for her picture books on Australians at war (Photographs in the Mud - about the Kokoda Track; and Lighthouse Girl - set on Breaksea Island in WW1) and how she then creates her narratives. Dianne is a warm and engaging presenter, guaranteed to fascinate your students.

Time in Residence: 9 - 26 March

Catherine writes poetry, novels for young adults and junior fiction. She teaches Professional writing and editing and also regularly appears as a writer in schools and at Writing Festivals.Catherine will be working exclusively in the Youth Literature Day Programme and the regional Young Writers' Programme in Albany, Bunbury and Geraldton.

Time in Residence: 29 - 31 March

Leonie writes because she wants to show children that “Australian people and white people can and do live together in respect and trust, despite their different cultural traditions.”

Leonie will be working exclusively in the inaugaral metropolitan Young Writers' Programme at the Centre.

Time in Residence: 25 - 30 May

Alison makes a welcome return to conduct sessions on her splendid first picture book for older readers, Running with the Horses.
Set in Austria during WWII, it tells of the dramatic escape, to a place of safety, of some of the famous Viennese dancing horses.
Sessions available:
2 HOUR - MEET THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR AND WORKSHOP
Creating a Collage Picture Book
Students will create their own little book, using the techniques Alison used in Running with the Horses.
Great Professional Development for accompanying teachers and librarians.
Suitable for Year 4 to Year 8

Kirsty is a compulsive reader and writer whose published work includes eight novels, three works of non-fiction and two short fiction titles. Kirsty will be working exclusively in the Youth Literature Day Programme and the Regional Young Writers' Programme in Albany, Bunbury and Geraldton.

Raewyn Caisley has had over 20 books published. "It's wonderful being able to make children smile, to see their imaginations awakening and hopefuly inspire them." Raewyn will be working in the metropolitan Young Writers' Programme at the Centre.
Raewyn is also available throughout the year to come to your school to work with your students.
